Rebekah Cowell is a former North Carolina-based investigative journalist whose professional work focused on low-income, minority communities who live next to hazardous waste facilities but have no platforms to voice their concerns about diseases related to pollution exposures. She is a former Fellow of the Schuster Institute for Investigative Journalism at Brandeis University, and recently completed an environmental justice series underwritten by a George Polk Grant for Investigative Reporting.
Cowell received the 2012 Sigma Delta Chi award for Investigative Reporting (non-daily publication) from the Society of Professional Journalism. Her passion for encouraging others to tell their stories has inspired her to facilitate writing workshops coaching senior citizens and women through the process of accessing their own narratives.
