The On Being Gathering — Becoming Wise: A Calling for This Age

On Being Gathering

For years we’ve aspired to gather together — in the flesh — our far-flung universe of listeners and readers. Now, in partnership with the new 1440 Multiversity in the hills and redwood forests of Santa Cruz county, it’s finally happening!

Our inaugural adventure will take place on President’s Day weekend: three days of conversation, poetry, and community with Krista Tippett, beloved teachers from the show and the blog, and the entire On Being team. Special guests include Seth Godin, Maria Popova, David Whyte, Maria Hinojosa, Naomi Shihab Nye, Omid Safi, Jennifer Bailey, and Parker Palmer.

In large and small groups, we will take up the possibilities of this moment to generatively inhabit the spaces of our lives and renew common life in a fractured world. There will be shared meals and music in the evenings, and plenty of space across the three days for restoration, one on one conversation, and quiet reflection.

Why Attend

Become inspired and energized in your calling to be your best self, for the sake of the world — and to know you are not alone in this. Reimagine virtues such as love, hope, and faith not as wishful thinking but as renewable resources for moving through life as it is.

For three days, step away from the 24/7 barrage of news that focuses on the extraordinarily terrible, and shift your awareness to the very real abundant beauty, courage, and grace in the world as you gain tools for the art of living.

We will explore:

—The raw materials of wisdom in our lives.

—Virtues to embody as ways of being that lead to deeper connections, moral imagination, and inhabiting our own truths while making space for others to inhabit theirs

—How to make use of the knowledge we’re gaining about our bodies and our brains that can help us join aspiration to action, and truly become more whole.

—The generative narrative of our time — the larger story of healing and spiritual evolution that we can ferment.

—What love might mean as a public good.

Participants will return to their communities with ideas, practices, and relationships to extend in the spirit of On Being’s Civil Conversations Project and Krista’s New York Times bestselling book, Becoming Wise.

Space is limited to 350 people. To ensure a purposeful cross-section of humanity, we’re asking you to complete a simple application form. We’ll send the invitations to register by September 15.
